Hoshino Yukinobu (B Jan 29th 1954) esteemed Japanese manga artist, visited the British Museum in 2009 and subsequently produced a mystery story set in the museum. The story featured his popular Professor Munakata who had first appeared in Japan’s Big Comic. The exhibition includes Hoshino’s sketches and finished drawings for the story. I learned from Wikipedia that Yukinobu prefers to describe his comics as gekiga - 'dramatic drawings' rather than manga - 'irresponsible pictures'. Which gives food for thought.* Yukinobu has produced ‘serious’ science fiction and tales based in ancient and pre-historical times.

* I guess that is like preferring to draw graphic novels rather than comics.
